John Norman

Partner, Chief Creative Officer, Translation

As a young boy, John Norman found that his knack for drawing horses and race cars offered an easy way to impress girls and make friends. These days, his work turns heads all over the world. John is currently Chief Creative Officer and Partner at Translation NY, working with top brands including State Farm, the National Basketball Association, Champs Sports, Android, and Sprint.

Prior to joining Translation in 2014, John led the creative team at TBWA\Chiat\Day LA as Chief Creative Officer. There, his clients included Gatorade, Southwest Airlines, the Grammys, Pepsi – among others. At Chiat, John also worked to create the global adidas World Cup campaign, which launched in summer 2014.

From 2010 to 2012, John served as Chief Creative Officer of The Martin Agency, where he led Walmart to its first-ever creative awards. As Executive Creative Director of Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam from 2005 until 2010, he was responsible for winning the global Coca-Cola business and creating the “Coke Side of Life” campaign, which featured the legendary “Happiness Factory” spot. At Wieden, he also oversaw two award-winning World Cup campaigns for Nike – “Joga Bonito” and the critically acclaimed “Write the Future.” As Group CD at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, he launched Hewlett-Packard’s much-lauded “+HP” work.

Before rising to the level of Creative Director, John held a variety of design roles both in-house with major brands and independently. He has been Design Director for Benetton in Italy, a graphic designer for Nike and owner of his own creative agency.

Still, John feels lucky that the boy who loved to draw got to grow up and get paid to show people his drawings. What a wonderful life.
