Now That’s A Tailgate: McDonald’s Teams with Translation for NFL Campaign

New York, NY.—September 4, 2014—This year, McDonald’s blitzes into the action, excitement, and camaraderie of fall football season with “This is Tailgating,” a rousing new commercial campaign for TV and radio developed by Translation. The new :30 spot handily combines the magic of friends, food, and football with all the trappings of the game day experience – including authentic telecast visuals and the iconic theme song from the most popular night in football. The launch of the campaign, along with the 2014 football season, marks McDonald’s second year as the official restaurant sponsor of the NFL.

“Football season doesn’t just happen on Sundays at the stadium,” notes Mark Carlson, Senior Creative Director of US McDonald’s Marketing. “It takes place whenever and wherever people gather to enjoy the sport with food and friends. Whether you’re pulling up to the drive-thru just before kickoff, discussing your fantasy team at the restaurant, or enjoying the game with your favorite meal at home – tailgating with McDonald’s is a new style of tailgating.”

“This is Tailgating” highlights McDonald’s $5 20-piece Chicken McNuggets deal, a perfectly shareable complement to any game day celebration. Translation, the NYC-based ad agency behind recent McDonald’s campaigns like “Bacon Clubhouse,” “Bad Lip Reading,” and “Big Mac Football Fantasy,” handled creative development, production, and strategy for the new campaign.
